At 18, our producer faced the devastating loss of his father, Nicolas. To honor his father’s legacy, he named one of his farms after him. The following harvest tested his resolve as rust nearly obliterated his coffee crop. Rising at five each morning, he worked tirelessly to salvage what he could. Despite moments of desperation and dreams of fleeing to the United States for a better life, he chose to stay and fight for his farm’s future in the village of Santa Teresa, where he grew up and feels deeply connected.
With unwavering determination, he learned how to cultivate and process superior coffee. Concurrently, he pursued studies in agronomy, specializing in coffee plants, gaining knowledge that surpassed the traditional methods passed down from his father and grandparents.
Today, he serves as the technical coordinator of CAFESMO, our partner in Honduras, while continuing to manage his farm with ever-increasing expertise and dedication. His mother and sister are vital to his efforts, often helping to tend the farm. His sister and her husband, who also own a farm, regularly check on his farm when he is occupied with his duties for CAFESMO.
Jaime’s journey is one of resilience, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. We invite you to experience the flavors of his coffee, a true testament to his hard work and the rich legacy of Nicolas Farm.
