About the coffee:

Mogiana is a sub-region of the State of Sao Paulo, one of the most populous and economically important states in Brazil. It is home to the port of Santos, where much of Brazil’s coffee is exported. The region was named for the railway company that built the rail network in the region. ‘Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro’ built the so-called ‘railway of coffee’ in 1883, and to this day it carries much of Brazil’s coffee exports to Santos. The railway, as well as the excellent climatic conditions have led to a great deal of coffee being produced in Mogiana. In a Brazilian context there is plentiful high altitude, up to 1100 masl, and a constant temperature of around 20°C year round leads to consistently well balanced and high quality cups. This lot is produced by several farmers located near the city of Araraquara, and is of mixed varietals, mainly Catuai and Yellow Bourbon. Each producer processes their own coffee and delivers to a central location in the city. The natural process brings typical Brazilian notes of dark chocolate and walnut to the cup.
